Swiss FOCA: 15,000 incident reports in 2025

The Federal Office of Civil Aviation (FOCA) processed roughly 15,000 incident reports in 2025 – significantly more than in previous years, as detailed in the recently published Annual Safety Report. Around 17% more incidents reported in commercial aviation and recreational aviation than in the previous year; more scratches on aircraft, and pilots and ground staff making wrong turns on the ground at increasingly complex aerodromes with tighter space constraints; more incorrectly loaded aircraft; more near-misses in the air; more airspace violations due to new airspace structures; more conflicts between aeroplanes, helicopters and drones; more GPS disruptions; more abusive and violent passengers; fewer laser attacks; helicopters still colliding with cables; fewer accidents involving helicopters at work; more reports regarding aircraft airworthiness; no fatal accidents in commercial aviation, four accidents with a total of six fatalities in recreational aviation, one helicopter accident with one fatality and one injury during an agricultural operation. That is a summary of incident statistics in Swiss civil aviation for 2025 in a nutshell.

The new Genève Aéroport website

Genève Aéroport is launching its new website, which has been completely redesigned

to offer the passengers a smoother, more personalised and useful experience. With

innovative features and real-time information, this platform is set to become a true

travel companion. The homepage features a clean design and intuitive navigation, with a mobile-first approach. A permanently accessible search bar keeps the most sought-after services within easy reach. At the heart of this redesign is personalised content. By entering their flight details, passengers now receive tailored support throughout their journey. A personal assistant provides key information, such as the recommended arrival time, the best transport options for getting to the airport, real-time flight tracking, the boarding gate with the estimated walking time, or dining options along the way. A new feature allows passengers to make the most of their time at the airport thanks to continuously updated information. By entering their destination or flight number, they can check parking availability, waiting times at security, and how busy the main terminal is. Flight updates via Messenger or WhatsApp is available to help passengers make the most of the services on offer.

IATA: SAF Production Volumes Still Disappointing

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) released estimates showing that global Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) production is expected to reach around 2.4 million tonnes in 2026, representing just 0.8% of aviation fuel use, at a cost to airlines of $4.3 billion. “It looks to be another disappointing year for SAF production. Five years after committing to achieve net zero by 2050, SAF production will only account for 0.8% of airline fuel use this year. The path to meeting 65% of our needs in 2050 is growing more difficult with each year of ineffectively sequenced government policies and oil companies’ manifest lack of interest. The current energy shock should add even more urgency to the development of renewables, including SAF. But we have yet to see either the energy shock, the need to develop energy independence and jobs, or the urgency to mitigate climate change materialize in the incentives needed to create aviable SAF market,” said Willie Walsh, IATA’s Director General.
